Permitting Users to Operate the Always On Tuner

The Always On radio contains controls that let you determine who can operate it. Three access levels are supported. These included locked, unlocked, and group. The default access level is group. Below is a description of each access type.

Group When the access level is set to group only the owner or members of the assigned group can operate the tuner. Group members must activate their group tag before they can be permitted.
Locked When you Lock the Always-On Tuner only the owner and anyone in the Access List can operate it. If the tuner is group owned then only an avatar in the Access List can operate it.
Unlocked When you Unlock the Always-On Tuner you allow anyone to operate it.

Preparing to Lock the Always On Tuner

Before you lock the tuner you should create a list of users who can access the tuner. You can do this by creating a note card named "access.list" and placing it into the tuner's contents. The access list can also be stored online with tuners that are Version 6 and above.

The Always one service recognizes two types of users. You can designate one or more managers and any number of operators. Users with manager access can do any supported operation. Users with operator access can do anything except change the access level or access type of the radio. Managers have privileges like an owner while operators are users like guests or DJs. Users contained in an "access.list" note card are always managers.

The Always on Radio recognizes an avatar's User Name or Legacy Name as described here. The Always on Radio does not support an avatar's display name since these can be duplicated. the user name is the name used to login to Second Life. The following list show the typical format of a name the radio will support.

Adding and Removing Users from an Access List

The Options -> Access menu item allows you to add, delete, or list users from the access list stored online. Here you can update Managers or Operators who are permitted to use the radio.

There is a practical limit on how many users you can define for a radio. We have not measured the limit but suspect it will be about 20. If you define too many users the scripts may run out of memory and report an run time error or heap overflow. If this happens then just remove the radio from your land and start over. The Always On Service may begin to enforce a limit in a future release.
